About Therapy
Therapy can be short-term or long term, depending on your needs and goals. I am an integrative counsellor which means that I will work in a way that addresses your needs in the most appropriate way for you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy
I work mainly using CBT which is a shorter-term collaborative and practical therapy, working in the here and now. CBT addresses unhelpful or rigid ways of thinking about things or unhelpful behaviours which affect our mood, often associated with depression, anxiety, addictions or phobias. CBT touches on how our early experiences have shaped how we view things now and focuses on defining a goal for therapy with in-between session work and acquiring the skills needed in order to be able to move forwards in life. I use Schema Therapy to address more complex issues from childhood and adolescent years which informs our day to day responses. The aim of both these approaches is to unpick unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour and to equip you with the necessary skills you will need in order to lead a more fulfilled life.
Person Centred Therapy
I work using a person-centred/experiential approach which addresses your current issues and focuses on your emotions within our counselling relationship. This way of working aims to support your emotional struggles that are tied up around your presenting issues and offers a supportive environment to make it safe enough for you to explore these issues.
